Understanding the Research Process

Computer Programming I – Summer 2022

This course has allowed me to develop the basics of coding and programming that has eased my entry into the world of data analysis in all of my projects. By learning basic Java and its structure, learning R and other programs was significantly facilitated.

Volunteer Research Assistant – Fall 2022

Kicked off my research journey by volunteering with Master of Science student Joey Egeland. Plated and counted bacteria that were used for bioremediation. Followed various procedures and methods to characterize the bacterial cultures.

Research Innovators – Fall 2022

This program, now called Research Rookies, helped me acquire skills to work as part of an interdisciplinary team of creative and keen future researchers. Developed my understanding of community engaged research, attended research events on campus, and took parts in studies across campus including Cultural Mapping.

Directed Studies – Fall 2022

Collaborated with a fellow undergraduate student, Aman Galymov, under Dr. Kinsgley Donkor and Dr. Naowarat Cheeptham to develop a method to determine uric acid concentrations in human saliva using capillary electrophoresis. Was able to apply the method to determine the concentrations of uric acid in saliva samples from patients in the local ICU.

Human Physiology II Research Project – Winter 2024

Developed and conducted a research study with human participants determining the effects on dietary nitrate on oxygen consumption efficiency (OCE) during exercise. The data from the study was recorded, analyzed, and presented orally.  I contributed by disseminating the mechanistic background of the nitrate and how it is speculated to increase OCE.
